Colors and Personality

Colors, like features, follow the changes of the emotions.

One of my favorite colors is no Color. Billy Baldwin

Some colors are very difficult to render, and you must compensate to get the color you want on the screen.

About 4 years ago my friend gave me a book about daily psychological tests, recommendations and about basic knowledge about psychological therapy. She knows my passion to learn psychology, so she knew that it would turn to be my every day table book.
I am still  repaginating that book and seeing it from the different perspectives each time.
The name of the book is " Psychology for every day". Although it is in Russian, I would like to translate and share one of the interesting parts of it about the place of COLORS in our lives and how we have are choosing favorite colors?

The reason is simple, because they are related to our spirits.

Let's first define the meaning of colors.

  • Black is real sensation, even if it is produced by entire absence of light. Black absorbs all light in the color spectrum. Black is the color of the hidden, the secretive and the unknown, creating an air of mystery. It keeps things bottled up inside, hidden from the world.

  • Orange is a combination of yellow and red and is considered an energetic color. It was used to heal the lungs and to increase energy levels. Orange is the color of social communication and optimism. Orange is cheerfulness, low cost, affordability, enthusiasm, stimulation, creativity, aggression, food.

  • Purple is the symbol of royalty and wealthPurple also represents wisdom and spiritualityPurple does not often occur in nature, it can sometimes appear exotic or artificial. Purple is power, royalty, nobility, elegance, sophistication, artificial, luxury, mystery, royalty, elegance, magic
  • Blue is the color of trust and peace. Blue can suggest loyalty and integrity as well as conservatism and frigidity, tactful, reliability and responsibility, conservatism and perseverance, caring and concern, idealistic and orderly, contemplation, peaceful and calm.
  • Yellow is the color of the mind and the intellect. It is optimistic and cheerful. However it can also suggest impatience, criticism and cowardice. Yellow is attention-grabbing, comfort, liveliness, cowardliness, hunger, optimism, overwhelm, Summer, comfort, liveliness, intellect, happiness, energy, conflict.
  • Green is the color of balance and growth. It can mean both self-reliance as a positive and possessiveness as a negative, among many other meanings. GREEN durability, reliability, environmental, luxurious, optimism, well-being, nature, calm, relaxation, Spring, safety, honesty, optimism, harmony, freshness
  • RED warmth, love, anger, danger, boldness, excitement, speed, strength, energy, determination, desire, passion, courage. RED one day and this may indicate they are ready to take action, or they may be passionate about what they are going to be doing that day, or again it may mean that they are feeling angry that day, on either a conscious or subconscious level.
  • White leanliness, purity, newness, virginity, peace, innocence, simplicity, sterility, sow, ice, cold. The color meaning of white is purity, innocence, wholeness and completion.

Now, let's see how colors relate to our personalities.

Statistics show that 14% of population until 1995, choose black as a favorite color, which is the majority compare to other colors.
Once I saw in one of the Magazines the quote from Donna Karan that says,

"Black is not a color. Most of the people choose it, because it is an illusion."

  • Lovers of black have a need for power and control in order to protect their own emotional insecurities.
  • If your favorite color is red, you are action oriented with a deep need for physical fulfillment and to experience life through the five senses.
  • If orange is your favorite color, you have a great need to be with people, to socialize with them, and be accepted and respected as part of a group. You also have a need for challenges in your life, whether it is physical or social challenges.
  • Choosing yellow as your favorite means you have a deep need for logical order in your everyday life and to be able to express your individuality by using your logical mind to inspire and create new ideas.
  • If green is your favorite, you have a deep need to belong, to love and be loved, and to feel safe and secure. You need acceptance and acknowledgment for the everyday things you do for others - just a 'thank you' is sufficient.
  • Lovers of blue have a deep need to find inner peace and truth, to live their life according to their ideals and beliefs without having to change their inflexible viewpoint of life to satisfy others.
  • If purple or violet is your favorite color, you have a deep need for emotional security and to create order and perfection in all areas of your life, including your spiritual life. You also have a deep need to initiate and participate in humanitarian projects, helping others in need.
  • If your personality color is pink you have a deep need to be accepted and loved unconditionally.
  • If turquoise is your favorite color your deepest need is to create emotional balance in your life, to be able to express your hopes and dreams no matter how idealistic they may be and to make your own way in the world under your own terms.
  • Lovers of brown have a deep need for a safe, secure, simple and comfortable existence with supportive family and friends.
  • If white is your personality color, your deepest need is for simplicity in your own life and to be independent and self-reliant so you do not need to depend on anyone else.
  • With gray as your favorite color, you are the middle of the road type, cool, conserved, composed and reliable. You tend to conform just to keep the peace.

    Scheduled and fun together

Is it a reality that sometimes time is flying away, when other times it is just going?

This semester I am  more than happy with my course schedule. I could not find enough time for writing about my impressions about them, but really would like to share.

I am taking elective courses that are very interesting to me.  Environmental issues & climate change, IR in movies and GENDER in IR are my favorites.

Environmental class is pretty funny, though it has nothing to do with International Relations:)) We are choosing and observing a particular area in campus, then writing a report about observation, about change in temperature and environmental changes overall.
For exp, today we went to Bilkent lake. The Lake is artificial, but pretty big with a great view.
We have a very nice professor, she is from United States. Environmentalist, vegetarian, against usage of cars and mobile phones, but still using internet , at least in order to contact us :) We have a mutual sympathy I guess maybe because of my interest to the subject, she chose me as her assistant.

My goal for the near future is to make more people to be educated in Gender issues and their equality!

I fell in love with my Gender in Ir course professor. His name is Tore Frougner. He is from Norway. I knew him before, because he was my Erasmus coordinator, but did not know him personally, more specifically,  his ideas about social issues such as "Gender difference"  for example :)
First of all,  he is full of energy even in 8.40 classes: drinking coffee in his big coffee pot, while discussing  the subject very passionately with the whole class. I should say, his voice is getting very load sometimes, but it is priceless for the morning class-keeping me awake :)
Secondly, he can see the world from the women' perspective. Not everyone could interpret the development  of the gender relations as good as he does. He is building empathy, which is the best way to perceive and go to the depths of any subject. Probably, that is a main reason why he is giving that course.
He is the very successful in convincing, he is very smart to pursue a person to make a link and make a distinction between brainwashing and reliable statements.
I can not tell that I am learning a lot in this class, but the way he is organizing his ideas makes a perfect structure in my brain about a knowledge that I already knew.

For example, I knew about feminist movements; but did not think about its causes.

Well, I agree that wars are terrible. But everything happens for a reason. Wars, especially second World War is the most important cause for the feminist insurgence.
When he was talking about wars, I remembered my granny's stories about world war period. She is a great example for that. When my granny lost her father she started working, in 13 years old she was working in few places at the same time. She was the eldest child in the family and everyone expected her to earn for piece of bread.
She was a leader everywhere, in every stage of her life. You know why? Because expectations from her was high enough since her childhood and she was trying to meet their expectations and needs. Not something else, but definitely THIS makes her to be successful,  to be the head of the family throughout her life even now, in 85 years old! :)

Society or our own families expect man to be strong, active, smart, leader, when woman beautiful, sensible, honest, gracious etc, etc.
Thanks to LIFE, thanks to Wars, difficulties of 20th century, that made a rise of women position in society.

    Another example,

People used to think that women are not engaged in politics, because they are too emotional.
Do you really think that emotional people are far from being rational? Or do you think that a word "emotional" has that limited meaning of "sensitive" that generally is accepted as a "weak person"?!

Men are at least as emotional as women are, but showing it in different forms.

    Let's see

Maybe men are not always crying when they are getting angry or sad but they are crashing something, beating or screaming.
Did you know that men are twice more likely to commit a crime than women and to drink alcohol?
Men are engaged in sexual harassment and rape. The reason is not a sexual desire. The reason relies on the negative emotions that they have inside.

When women are getting off their negative emotions by crying, men are beating, heating, in extreme cases committing crimes and rapes.

Emotions are natural for both men and women. Please, tell something different next time when you will mention about rationality and emotions that can determine success of men in Politics.

Because, rationality has nothing to do with emotions.

If you have this course in your University, I would like to advice you to take Gender in Ir course, not depending on where you are studying at.
